NAMI NKY addresses those serious and persistent brain disorders, which are commonly called mental illnesses. These illnesses include:
• Schizophrenia
• Panic Disorder
• Schizoaffective Disorder
• Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
• Major Depression
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
• Bipolar Disorder (Manic-Depression)

Physicians are often reluctant to label a young child with the diagnosis of a major mental illness. Therefore, NAMI also addresses:
• Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
• Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).
Many adults and teens with mental illness also have addictions. Common co-occurring addictions are alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. Addictions can mask the co-occurring mental illness. Both addiction and mental illness need treatment to achieve recovery.
NAMI NKY serves eight counties in the Northern Kentucky area. The covered counties are:
• Boone • Carroll
•Kenton • Campbell • Owen
• Gallatin • Pendleton
