NAMI Northern Kentucky, Inc. is an affiliate of NAMI (the National Alliance on Mental Illness) and NAMI Kentucky, Inc.

NAMI Northern Kentucky, Inc. often uses the shorter name NAMI NKY.

NAMI NKY offers education, support and advocacy to:

• Families and friends of individuals with mental illness, and
• Individuals with mental illness.

NAMI NKY provides a telephone help line, including telephone referrals to other helpful resources.  NAMI NKY furnishes pamphlets, classes, support groups and newsletters.

NAMI NKY, through its education courses and support groups, addresses serious and persistent brain disorders,   commonly called mental illnesses.  
These conditions include, but are not limited to:

• Schizophrenia
• Anxiety & Panic Disorders
• Schizoaffective Disorder:
• Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
• Major Depression
• Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
• Bipolar Disorder (Manic-Depression)
• Borderline Personality Disorder

NAMI NKY is adding several programs to support the well-being of children showing symptoms of mental illness and their caretakers.  Physicians are often reluctant to label a young child with the diagnosis of a major mental illness.  Therefore, NAMI also addresses such diagnoses as, but not limited to:

• Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
• Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
• Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

Addictions.         Many adults and teens with mental illness also have addictions.  Common co-occurring addictions are alcohol, tobacco and drugs.  Addictions can mask the co-occurring mental illness.  Those with both addiction disorders and mental illness need coordinated treatment with the same professionals to achieve recovery.

Service Area:      NAMI NKY serves eight counties in the Northern Kentucky area. The covered counties are:

• Grant

NAMI NKY serves the communities served by NorthKey Community Care.  NorthKey is the Northern Kentucky organization charged by the state of Kentucky to offer Mental Health, Substance Use and Developmental Disabilities services in the region.
